Dr. James kong, Therapeutic Optometrist
In 1965, James Kong immigrated with his parents and siblings to Houston, Texas USA from Hong Kong. Growing up helping the family's restaurant business allowed him to develop a strong sense of family and work ethic.
Dr. Kong loves to spend time with his five children and wife. He loves to attend the musical, theatrical and sporting events in his children's lives. In his spare time, Dr. Kong enjoys cooking, investing, sports and theatre. He plays golf, racquetball, softball and basketball. |
In 1990, Dr. James Kong graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He joined the Today's Vision Group of Doctors in 1995 with locations in Downtown Houston and Rosenberg Texas.
Dr. Kong is a 1999 graduate of Fort Bend Leadership through the Rosenberg-Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce.
He has served on the Board of Directors for the TW Davis YMCA, the Literacy Council of Fort Bend County as Secretary and Treasurer and First Book Houston. He has volunteered as a tutor for Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language at the George Memorial Library.
Dr. Kong is one of several chefs who participates in the Lamar Educational Awards Fund, Men Who Cook fund-raiser.
His best dish is Kung Pao Chicken. After several years hiatus, growing his five children, Dr. Kong served up his signature dish the Spring of 2022, Men Who Cook.
Dr. Kong served a 3 year term on the St. Francis De Sales School Board where his 5 children attended primary and middle school from kindergarten thru the 8th grade. Dr. Kong joined the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Knights of Columbus #10995 in 2012. His favorite Knights activities included helping cook and sell over 50 smoked turkeys every Thanksgiving morning,
smoking and slicing brisket during the annual Bazaar, and cooking and serving the Lenten Fish Frys.
He is a member of other organizations such as the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and the Harris County Optometric Society. Dr. Kong must attend 32 hours of continuing education every 2 years to maintain his Optometric License.

As a therapeutic optometrist, Dr. Kong can prescribe the necessary medications for conjunctivitis (pink/red eyes) and ocular allergies.
Areas of expertise include specialty contact lenses. Dr. Kong is trained and certified to fit Scleral and
Mini-Scleral Contact Lenses for the correction of Keratoconus and Irregular Corneas, especially after ocular surgery.
Other Keratocunus Contact Lenses include the Synergeyes and Rose 2K IC (irregular corneas).
For presbyopic patients losing their close focus, Dr. Kong fits the newest Soft Toric Bifocal Contact Lenses. These can correct astigmatism and presbyopia.
